On a warm summer evening, Horsehaven Stables was proud to host a barn evacuation drill with the Granger Township volunteer Fire Department. As they drove up in their shiny, red fire-trucks and other rescue vehicles they were greeted by Solange, Lady and of course, Phil!
About 2 dozen firefighters were very intrigued to learn about the workings and physical structure of our horse barn. The training also included hands-on time with the horses and learning the safe way to approach and evacuate a horse from the barn. For several of the firefighters, it was their first time handling horses.
Poteen, Arwen, Madison Valley, Preacher, Dippy, Lady and Angel were all gracious enough to stand quietly during the haltering and leading portions.
Special thanks to Prince Charming for being so brave! He allowed himself to be removed from his stall and trotted out by a firefighter in a full suit including mask and oxygen tank. What a good boy!!
We feel the training was a huge success with everyone learning from each other and the horses profiting the most!
Horsehaven Stables will be donating one size fits all Velcro closure halters and lead lines to the Granger volunteers to keep on hand in their trucks for all barn emergencies. We hope and pray they never have to use them.
Thank you to all the brave men and women who protect and save us and our animals.
